The Secretariat Site Hacker Turns Out To Be Teenagers, Revealed That 650 Websites Have Been Broken For This Reason
At the end of July 2021, Indonesia was shocked when the official website of the Cabinet Secretariat (setkab.go.id) was hacked. The main display changes to a black screen with photos showing demonstrators carrying red and white flags.
It reads “Padang Blackhat II Anon Illusion Team Owned By Zyy ft Luthfifake”. Repairs were immediately carried out, and the perpetrators of the hack were arrested, the police reported.
The Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at the National Police Headquarters, Komjen Pol Agus Andriyanto revealed that the perpetrator was still a teenager. “The perpetrators were teenagers,” said Agus, referring to the perpetrators with the initials BS alias ZYY (18) and MLA (17) from West Sumatra.
The head of the Public Information Bureau (Karopenmas) of the Public Relations Division of the Police Headquarters, Brigadier General Rusdi Hartono, explained that the two had become suspects. Unmitigated, the two teenagers could face a prison sentence of up to 10 years.
What made it even more upsetting, said Agus, was that apparently the two teenagers had hacked at least 650 sites. “650 domestic and foreign websites were hacked by the suspect,” Agus explained, Sunday (8/8).
“The motive is personal gain,” continued Agus, imitating the confessions of the two suspects who had been arrested by the police. Agus also revealed the alleged reason why the official Secretariat website could be hacked, namely due to operator negligence.
“Inattention is like logging in in a public place, so the network is not safe. This does require caution, especially in an atmosphere where PPKM is still working outside the office,” said Agus.
Related to the motive, explained more specifically by the Director of Cybercrime of the Indonesian National Police, Brigadier General Slamet Uliandi, it is for the sake of obtaining economic benefits, namely by selling backdoor scripts from a site. Moreover, because the two perpetrators turned out to have very experience in defacing websites, namely hacking at least 650 sites.
For this reason, Slamet encourages the public to be more vigilant and maintain data security. “Back to the person, they want to use IT knowledge for good or bad things. That’s why it’s important for people to maintain data security,” concluded Slamet.
