A meatball baker, Handoko, who trades in Binjai was surprised when he received a tax bill from the Regional Revenue and Assets Financial Management Agency (BPKAD) of Binjai City of IDR 6 million per month. He was surprised because he had not received any socialization from the city government.

This case has finally gone viral on social media. Especially the public interest that empathizes with the meatball maker. The city government of Binjai also received many questions regarding the veracity of the letter.

On Friday (26/8), the City Government of Binjai, through the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, finally opened its voice. They explained about the tax problem.

“The invoice that we submitted was preceded by the results of a survey, a limited survey with our human resources. With a letter that we convey at the same time as the letter, in paragraph 2 it reads that if you have a discrepancy with our team, you can make a tax clarification in the socialization event on August 23- August 27, 2021 at the GOR,” said the Head of the Binjai City BPKAD, Affan Siregar, in his statement.

According to Affan, the socialization went smoothly even though on the first day only 17 people attended. While on Friday there were 80 people present to clarify the tax letter.

He also invited Handoko to come to the BPKAD office and clarify the tax bill if it was deemed inappropriate.

“So our invoice is not a fixed price, it is only information that can be clarified,” Affan said.

He said Handoko could fill out the self-assessment form. He calculated himself, reported and deposited the taxes he had estimated.

“This is not final, sir. This is an activity that we do in order to collect more local taxes. Because so far there have been voices that are not pleasant to hear, for example I am subject to taxes, but those there are not,” he concluded.
