Dutch Police Arrest COVID-19 Positive Couple Who Escaped from Hotel Quarantine

Dutch police officers arrested a husband and wife couple who escaped from a quarantine hotel on Sunday (28/11) night. One of them was found to be positive for COVID-19.

Before escaping, both of them were quarantined in a hotel where the isolation of positive COVID-19 passengers who arrived from South Africa (South Africa).

As is known, as many as 61 passengers on two flights from South Africa were confirmed positive for COVID-19 on Friday (26/11). 13 of them carry the Omicron variant. The total number of passengers on the two flights was 600 people.

It is not yet known whether the couple were passengers on the two South African flights. It is also not known whether any of them carry the Omicron variant.

“One of them tested positive for COVID-19 and was immediately isolated, while the other was negative but quarantined,” said Dutch Public Health Authority spokeswoman Stefanie van Waardenburg.

Police spokesman Stan Verberkt said the man who fled was a 30-year-old Spaniard, while the woman was a 28-year-old Portuguese.

“The Royal Netherlands National Police at Schipol Airport have arrested a couple this evening, who escaped from a quarantine hotel,” Verberkt said.

“The arrests were made on a plane that was just about to take off. They were on a plane that was leaving for Spain at 6pm.”

After being secured, the two have been isolated again, but in separate hotels.

Currently, the Dutch police and public prosecutor are determining the charges against the couple’s actions that endanger public safety.

It is still unknown how the couple escaped.

The Omicron variant is rocking the world. This new variant of the corona virus is known to have far more mutations, so it has the potential to be more infectious than previous strains or variants.

In fact, it is feared that this variant can avoid immunity, and reduce the efficacy of the vaccine. Omicron is now classified as a Variant of Concern (VoC).

This variant was first discovered in Botswana, a country in southern Africa. Later this variant was found to spread in South Africa.
